Scalez Barcode Scanner turns a barcode, SKU, or product name into a Shopify draft product. You scan or type a code, Scalez looks up the product's details (title, vendor, description, images, category, market prices, and measurements when they're available), you review and edit them, and then you create the product as a draft in your store.
1. Install the app
Install Scalez Barcode Scanner on your Shopify store and approve the permissions it asks for. It only needs read and write access to your products. It doesn't ask for access to your customers or orders.
2. Find your way around
Open the app from the Apps section of your Shopify admin. The app's menu has five pages:
- Home: a quick scan bar, your plan and scan usage, and your recent scans.
- Scan barcode: look up and create one product at a time.
- Bulk upload: look up many products at once from a CSV file or a pasted list.
- Product templates: save settings you reuse, like category, collections, tags, and target margin.
- Settings: your plan and billing, an option to share measurements with other apps, and support options.
3. Create your first product
Type or paste a UPC, SKU, or model number into the scan field and click Find product. You can also use a camera or a Bluetooth or USB scanner. Review the details Scalez finds, then click Create draft.
Our step-by-step video walkthrough shows the whole process in about two minutes.
4. Know how scans and plans work
Each product lookup uses one scan. If the code matches a product that's already in your store, Scalez warns you instead, and that doesn't use a scan.
Your store starts on the free plan, which includes 20 scans. This is a one-time allowance that doesn't reset. When it's used up, you'll be asked to choose a paid plan in Settings to keep scanning. Paid plans come with a monthly scan allowance that resets each billing period. See the Pricing page for current plans.
5. Where to go next
- Add many products at once with Bulk upload (up to 500 per file).
- Save a product template so you don't set the same fields on every product.
- Read the FAQ for help with cameras, hardware scanners, drafts, and scan limits.
